Marketing and Tech Sales Support

At our small but growing company you can expect to handle a broad range of tasks and wear several marketing hats. Some of the responsibilities and challenges of a position in our company include:
  1. Salford Systems' marketing is founded on a solid understanding of the capabilities of our flagship products, so applicants should have some experience (and comfort) with statistical modeling or data mining and be confident of their ability to learn this subject matter. Once you have sufficient technical mastery you will naturally find yourself helping sales people close deals with our typical Fortune 1000 customer, making sure that our prospects fully appreciate the strengths of our award-winning tools and understand how our consulting services might benefit them.
  2. We are making intensive use of the Internet to reach our target markets and will continue to look for innovative ways to identify prospects and convey our message in the most effective way. Candidates for this position should be comfortable not just in using the Web as a research tool, but also in proactively thinking how to better tailor our message and increase our visibility. In addition, we expect to be regularly presenting talks and seminars at trade shows and professional conferences, and will be identifying the best venues to attend. Our new marketer will also arrange speaking opportunities and oversee the logistics of trade shows.
  3. We will be releasing a series of new products and need to develop appropriate marketing materials (brochures, white papers) as well as press releases and public relations campaigns. Thus, our candidate must be a superb writer and be able to interact effectively with the editors of our target publications.
  4. Finally, we are actively pursuing partnership opportunities and will need assistance in extended conversations with firms open to collaborating with us.

Internship Opportunities at Salford Systems

Salford Systems invites graduate students in statistics, computer science, machine learning, econometrics, and related fields to apply for internship positions at any time of the year. Positions are for a minimum of three months and are open to US citizens and anyone with the appropriate visa. In the year 2000, interns had the opportunity to work with us on the KDDCup 2000 international web mining competition, playing a role in two first-place outcomes.

After mastering our core data mining tools, CART, MARS, and TreeNet® , you will work on one of several internal research projects or external applied data mining projects for our clients, which include some of the world's largest financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and manufacturers. Your supervisors, who include Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley PhDs, will offer a challenge equal to that found in the finest graduate programs. Applicants should have excellent communication and computer skills, be well organized, and ready for an intense learning experience.
